Frequently asked questions
Learn more about Benchpro and how it helps scientists showcase their technical expertise.
What is Benchpro?
Benchpro is a platform for biomedical scientists to build their online technical portfolio and share it with the world.
What is a technical portfolio?
Coders code and showcase their skills through Github.
Designers design and showcase skills through Dribbble.
What about scientists?
Scientists conduct experiments using investigative techniques. However, these experiments and their technical excellence are generally absent from scientific manuscripts. As such, scientists don't get as much credit as they deserve.
Why Benchpro?
The first time we looked at the Elsevier's CRediT author statement we thought there was something amiss about it: "What about technical contributions?"
Many of the credit attribution terms are non-technical and thus don't serve scientists well. Resources, supervision and funding acquisition are of paramount importance. But so is the design and development of complex investigative techniques. We at Benchpro want to ensure scientists get credit for what they do.
How is Benchpro different?
Scientists have multiple online tools and portfolios to measure their publication impact, but most (if not all) focus on academic merit: impact factor, citations, reviews, etc.
Benchpro focuses solely on technical merit, not academic. As a biomedical scientist, you may build your technical online portfolio for free and let the world know what you're good at.
